When Lost Odyssey was a disjointed tale, it had the benefit of being split into chapters and sections, but the story of Made in Abyss: Journey’s Dawn barely has a beginning, a middle and an end. The game is split up into three main sections. There is the opening level where you have to find the second chapter of the game.
As a part of the “Great Underground War”, the game switches to the Abyss. This section of the game is in the far north, which is covered in ice. As you are in this section, you will also encounter enemies made of ice.
From there, you start your journey in the first of the three chapters of the game, which is a cave that you come across after your vehicle breaks down. Your objective here is to find the Abyss passage. It leads to a strange magical stone. You will then start your second chapter.
The first part of the game can be played from the starting point of the Abyss, which can be found in the center of the screen. After a long journey, you reach a new section, where you will be given the option to travel forward or back.
After stepping on the threshold of the entrance to the Cave of Knowledge, you are trapped by the creatures that inhabit the cave. With your motorcycle destroyed, you will be forced to walk, or ride, back to the starting point. Now, on the second page of the game, you will arrive at the Cave of Refuge. You will be able to access the passage as long as you have found the gate which opens up and summons the pair of you that you will meet in the next section.
Made in Abyss: Journey’s Dawn is divided into three parts, each with its own narrative, if that makes sense. What is also different is that there is a fourth chapter that, if you missed it, is found in the same place as the second chapter of the game, in the second section of the game.
In Made in Abyss: Journey’s Dawn, you will travel through seven very short chapters. And you will encounter creatures and characters that you have never seen before. You will never see the same type of character or monster twice. So, even if you know how the story starts, you will probably come away from the game with a different view on the characters, and even the theme of the game itself.
As you may have guessed, all the characters and monsters in the game are those that the writer of the game knows about. Of course, there are certain exceptions, since the writers of the game did not have the budget to hire the local fauna. Instead, they got to use the backgrounds, animals and textures that they needed, and came up with creatures, which would fit these characters.
